This past weekend, as part of our New Year Shred Challenge, I asked my fat loss clients to answer one simple question:
“What’s one game-changer tip or insight you wish you knew before starting the program?”
Nothing formal. Just a simple prompt in our Inner Circle group chat that everyone could benefit from.
The insights were good.
So good, that I decided to share some of them with you here today.
The truth is, most men struggle with fat loss because they treat it as something way more complicated than it actually is.
So whether you’re just starting, or starting again, I think these will land for you.
Nutrition
Mike H
“Mine is a simple gauge I use to determine if a food item is "worth it."
For every 10 calories, I seek at least 1 gram of protein.
Taking a quick glance at nutritional info and checking that quick 10:1 math is super easy, only takes a second, and helps keep me on track when I'm on the road especially. That's been huge for me!”
David T
“My game changer is about food. Pre logging your food for a day in advance and sticking to it allows you to ensure your targets get hit. This makes consistency easy and success too!”
Steven B
“The nutritional data on pasta and rice packages is usually dry weight (pre-cooked).”
Movement
Jon W
“For me, it was keeping my treadmill running during my workouts and getting steps in during each 60 sec rest. This gets me on average about 2500 steps during my workout and makes hitting the daily target that much easier.”
Devan C
“The one thing I wish I knew before starting was how easy getting steps in was, just one good long walk at lunch and most of my steps are done.”
Alec S
“Tracking steps has been a big winner for me as well. It’s easy to go for a walk once in a while, not so easy forcing a walk to get those minimum 7000 steps. Once you get used to it though, you kind of miss it if you don’t get them in.”
Mindset
Tom S
“This is all about a shift in mindset and making it how I operate daily. We will have off days or weeks on vacation that may be a setback. These are not setbacks, these are real life events that keep us balanced…
…when working towards a different mindset on what my belief and values are, an off week or change in scale doesn't matter as you KNOW you will be back on track for the longer journey.
I used to feel guilty not being perfect but now enjoy the off path for what it was and then enjoy getting back on the target, a new version of how I operate for life, not just a short term goal.”
Chuck F
“It’s always been my mindset for day to day stuff. All my life I have “rewarded” myself with a treat. Usually something very unhealthy.
AND if it was a super shitty day, I would “cope” by having something very unhealthy…
…I am so glad I have started thinking about food differently. Definitely not something that can be taught. I wish I would have had that mindset in the beginning. I’m getting there!!!”
Steve J
“When I’m in the “zone” I’m eating to 80% full - not 100+ %.
It typically follows with going to bed with a small desire to eat something, but not enough to keep me awake dreaming of food!
That’s been a big shift for me which drives positive results.”

If these sound “too simple,” that’s the point.
They’re little hinges that swing big doors, and those doors just happen to lead to sustainable fat loss.
Pick your top 3 and implement them this week.
This is only complicated if you complicate it.
Talk soon.
